When a cat falls, several things happen. First, the cat will feel confused and immediately turn his head facing the ground. Then, the cat will place its front legs to be close to the head to protect it. After that, the cat starts to rotate the front body so that it is aligned with the head. Then in the end, the cat will rotate the back leg and all parts of its body to prepare to land.

All these movements are done quickly, before touching the land, so that the cat can land in a standing position.

Apart from having very flexible muscles and bones, cats also have an organ called the vestibular apparatus which is in their ears. O yes, we also have that organ, you. Then, what is the function of the vestibular apparatus? This organ functions as a body balancer.

Inside the vestibular apparatus, there are fluids and fine hairs. When the cat falls, the liquid moves around the vestibular apparatus. Then, the fine hair signals the brain, that something is not right. So, the cat will be aware and try to improve its position.

Even though the cat always falls in a standing position, it does not mean he will not get hurt. Every day, there must always be a cat that falls from a height, like the balcony of a house, with a broken leg. Generally, cats will not get hurt if they fall from a height of seven meters or less.

Uniquely, if the cat falls with a short distance, for example falling from a chair, it does not fall in a standing position. That's because, cats don't have enough time to be conscious and turn around.
